RESEARCH COLLABORATION WITH UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENTS OF STATISTICS AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS
Under the component “Research Collaboration with Universities’ Departments of Statistics and Research Institutions” of the Plan Scheme, “Awards & Fellowships for Outstanding and Meritorious Research Work in Statistics” proposals for financial support are invited by Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MOS&PI) for the purpose of research on the topics related to Applied/Official Statistics from the Universities having full-fledged Departments of Statistics and reputed Statistical Institutions having adequate statistical manpower, infrastructure facilities and expertise/experience in research in Applied/Official Statistics.
2. Research
Collaboration with Universities and research institutions has been initiated to
encourage good quality and useful research work in the field of
applied/official statistics, particularly on some of the current / critical
problems relating to existing data gaps in key areas of socio-economic
statistics. The critical areas include Human Development, Education, Gender Analysis, Environment,
Price, Poverty, Labour, Employment, National Income, Agriculture, Rural
Development, Industry, Productivity, Water Resources, Health, Power,
Urbanisation and Population. etc. The methodological issues in this
regard are more important and the work oriented towards improving statistical
practices in Indian context will be preferred for research fellowship
awards.
3. The
collaborating Universities/institutions will be free to select appropriate
topics of research in the field of applied/official statistics and the project
team. The Ministry of Statistics and
Programme Implementation will provide data free of cost to such collaborative projects;
to the extent it is available with MOS&PI as per the National Policy on
Dissemination of Statistical data.
4. The amount to be
disbursed for each proposal will not ordinarily be more than Rs. 2.50 lakhs
to the selected University Departments and Institutions and will be released on
half yearly basis, subject to the satisfactory progress of the work.
Expenditure incurred on hardware components (used for computing facilities),
equipments and large scale data collection etc. will not be funded by
MOS&PI. The eligible institutions may send their proposals in the enclosed
proforma so as to reach Director(PSSU), Central Statistical Organisation, Room
No. 223, 2nd Floor, Sardar Patel Bhawan , New Delhi-110001 latest by
31st July, 2006.
5. Detailed guidelines in this regard, if required, are available on
the website of this ministry (www.mospi.gov.in).
