Urban Frame Survey

The Urban Frame Survey consists of preparation and updation of mutually exclusive and identifiable urban blocks with well defined boundaries with a population content of 600-800 and /or 120-180 households in each block.  The formation of such blocks in urban area is a unique activity of the FOD.  These Urban Blocks serve as first stage sampling units in urban areas for different Socio-Economic Surveys of the NSSO and their updation is attempted once in five years.  The five-year periods are termed as phases of the survey. The UFS was first taken up during 1959-63 and has been continued on regular basis since 1972.

The maps of these blocks are also made available to the users other than the Government Agencies at the cost of Rs100/- per block. The maps are available for sale at the concerned State Capital Regional Office. Along with UFS map, relevant information on estimated population/households in the block is also provided.
