NOTIFICATION

 

No.R-16025/3/2005-NSC.  In pursuance of the Government of India Resolution No. A-11011/1/2005-Ad-I dated 1.6.2005, the National Statistical Commission is constituted with the following: -

 

(i)                Prof. Suresh Tendulkar, Centre for Development Economics, Delhi School of Economics – Chairman.

(ii)              Dr. Surjit S. Bhalla, S-160, Panch Shila Park, New Delhi-110017 – Member.

(iii)            Dr. Amitabh Kundu, Professor, Centre for Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067 – Member.

(iv)            Dr. Padam Singh, 2062, Park Royal, Sector-9, Block 10A, Dwarka, New Delhi - 110045 – Member.

(v)              Prof. Bikas Sinha, Professor, Division of Theoretical Statistics & Mathematics, Indian Statistical Institute, 203 B.T. Road, Kolkata-700108 – Member.

 

Besides the above four Members, Secretary, Planning Commission will be ex-officio Member of the Commission. The Chief Statistician of India will function as Secretary to the Commission. The Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will function as ex-officio Member Secretary of the Commission till the Chief Statistician of India assumes office.

 

2.       The Chairman and Members of the Commission will be part-time Chairman and Members. The tenure of the Chairman will be three years or till he attains the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier. The tenure of the Members will be three years or till they attain the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.

 

3.       The appointment, tenure and service condition of the Chairman and Members shall be governed by Government of India Notification No.A-11011/1/2005-Ad.I (Vol.IV) dated 8th May, 2006. The Chairman of the Commission will have the status of a Minister of State in the Government of India and the Members will have the status of a Secretary to the Government of India.

 

4.       The National Statistical Commission will perform the functions effectively and efficiently as stipulated in the Resolution No. A-11011/1/2005-Ad-I dated 1.6.2005.

 

5.       All expenditure on account of the National Statistical Commission will be incurred under the Head of Account 3451 (Major Head).

 

6.       This notification will come into force with effect from 12th July 2006.
