Regular Price Collection Surveys

Consumer Price Index CPI (Urban): It is designed to measure the change over time in the general level of retail prices relevant to the entire urban population in the country. The Field Operations Division of the NSSO collects data from 310 identified towns to be used for the construction of CPI (U) at all India level by Central Statistical Office.

Rural Price Collection (RPC): The Field Operation Division (FOD) of the NSSO collects data from 603 Villages on prices of specified commodities for compilation of Consumer Price Index (base year 1986-87) for Agricultural / Rural Labourers by Labour Bureau. There are presently 260 items listed in the main block of the schedule which have been classified in 15 broad groups.

Adhoc Surveys

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme Survey: At the request of Ministry of Rural Development, the Survey on Implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is being carried out by the NSSO in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The field survey involves 4 visits on six monthly intervals to the selected households for collection of data.

 Wholesale Price Index (WPI): At the request of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the Field Operation Division of the NSSO has been collecting and transmitting weekly price data gathered from the selected units/ factories in the organized sector for New Series of WPI (Base: 2004-05).

 

Consumer Price Index CPI (Urban)

The market survey for the CPI (Urban) had been completed in 2007 and the regular price collection work has commenced from 1st May, 2008 for 1114 Quotations from 310 towns.
