Urban Frame Survey (UFS) is conducted on a continuing basis to provide an updated frame of First Stage Units (FSUs) for conducting
Socio-economic enquiries in urban areas. The UFS blocks are updated taking into account the change in the population of cities and towns
and also in newly formed towns. Each town / city is divided into compact area / UFS blocks with natural or permanent boundaries.
The current phase i.e. 2007-2012 is being carried out under revised operational Guidelines as per which each UFS block is carved out with
around 80 - 200 households and IV unit of around 20 to 50 Blocks in general. UFS blocks / IV units formed during the current phase would
be frozen i.e. no change in boundaries / Units will be done in the subsequent updation / phases.
The IV unit maps prepared along with block information / identification is being provided to Government Departments / Private Users / Research
Institutions on their requests after fulfilling of certain conditions.
