In recognition of the notable contributions made by (Late) Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the field of economic planning and statistical development, the Government of India has designated 29th June every year, coinciding with his birth anniversary, as the Statistics Day in the category of Special Days to be celebrated at the national level. The objective of this Day is to create public awareness, among the people specially the younger generation for drawing inspiration from (Late) Prof. Mahalanobis about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) celebrated 18th Statistics Day on June 29, 2024 at Manekshaw Centre Auditorium, Khyber Lines, Delhi Cantonment, New Delhi. The theme chosen for this year’s celebration was “Use of Data for Decision Making ”. The event was also live streamed through various social media platforms of the Ministry.
