OVERVIEW
About
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India had announced the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) in the Parliament on 23rd December 1993. It is a Central Sector Scheme fully funded by the Government of India.
Objective
To enable Members of Parliament (MPs) to recommend works of developmental nature with emphasis on the creation of durable community assets based on the locally felt needs to be taken up in their constituencies/eligible areas.
Community Centric
Scheme is focused on the creation of durable assets for the aspirations and developmental needs of the community. Such needs are identified by the citizens and expressed through the Member of Parliament in form of recommendation under MPLADS.
Durable Assets
The scheme focuses on creation of durable assets in the community in priorities sector such as drinking water, primary education, public health, sanitation and roads, etc.
Annual Entitlement
Presently, Rs. 5 crore per annum in two installments of Rs. 2.5 crore each.

The MPLADS Guidelines have been made consistent with few flagship programmes of Government of India such as MGNREGA, Khelo India and Skill India. However, the contribution of MPLADS fund are used as per the Guidelines on MPLADS.

Shelters for imparting training for skill development will be permissible
In addition to this, the utilisation of MPLADS fund contributes towards Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan and Swach Bharat Abhiyan.
