State Assistance Programme of DPD

Different States and Union Territories also participate in the socio-economic NSS Round surveys conducted by NSSO; at least on an equal matching sample basis. The samples surveyed by the State Agencies are called ‘State Samples’. The state sample first stage units (FSUs) surveyed by the state agencies (BAE&S, SSB, DES, etc.) are also selected by DPD following the same sampling procedure used for selection of samples surveyed by NSSO.

Urban Frame Survey(UFS)

National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) has been conducting all India level large scale sample surveys on various socio-economic indicators. Traditionally, a stratified multi-stage sampling design has been followed in the survey conducted by NSSO. A household approach has been adopted for collecting the data in most of the socio-economic surveys. Since the frame for ultimate sampling units i.e. households is neither available nor feasible to be prepared afresh every time on account of time and cost factors, the sampling methods are so designed as to select the households in successive stages.

Recent Rounds

The history of NSS surveys can be divided into three phases:the formative years (1st to 10th round), the period of growth and consolidation (11th to 27th round) and the period after formation of NSSO (since 28th round). The 28th round of NSS (October 1973-June 1974) marks a significant watershed in the evolution of NSS as it introduced major changes in the design.
